The default setting for operating in Polar regions is to have a team that is frequently changing its membership roster and designated leader and constantly changing its operating parameters due to environmental demands. Having a common understanding and language about how teams function is the first step in making "teaming" a manageable skill.

If you search Google for "Situational Awareness Training" you discover (somewhat disconcertingly) that this area of the internet has been taken over by "tactical response specialists" who would have you believe that others wish you harm and you should be armed with a range of situational awareness strategies (ways of harming them back) if you want to stay "safe" in today's world.
